ABOUT Real Techniques

Samantha and Nicola Chapman grew up surrounded by makeup. Their aunt was a top makeup artist in London. Sam and Nic attended school for professional makeup artistry, Sam moved to London to work on counters and begin her career as a freelance artist. She had the opportunity to work with the likes of MAC, Estee Lauder, and Chanel doing everything from fashion weeks, to editorial.

In 2010, when Sam and Nic’s Youtube collaboration, Pixiwoo® channel had reached around 30,000 subscribers, the idea behind Real Techniques began to formulate. One of the most important things behind makeup artistry is using the right tools, and for many women, they are not quite sure where to start. The majority have grown up using triangle wedges, eye applicators, powder puffs, and even their fingers to apply makeup.

Get the best from your brush! Clean brushes will apply your makeup more smoothly for the best looks. We recommend washing them every week if used daily.

Squeeze a drop of gentle detergent (like Baby Shampoo or Unscented Soap) onto palm or textured surface, add warm water to your chosen surface and swirl bristles into gel and water. Rinse until clean. Careful not to immerse base of bristles. Reshape and dry flat or upside-down. Repeat as necessary.

Here are a few simple pointers to keeping your brush in pristine condition:

  1. Clean your brush once a week.
  2. Store your brush in a dry place.
  3. Stand the brushes up on a counter instead of storing them in a bag or drawer. (You can also store them in the Make Up case provided in most sets.)

Here are a few Dos and Don’ts to help extend the life and performance of your sponge:

  • DO store in a cool, ventilated area that has light exposure.
  • DO store on a soap dish that allows air to move around and under the sponge.
  • DO transport your sponge in a small mesh cosmetic bag.
  • DON’T place your damp sponge in a cabinet, drawer or a closed makeup bag.
  • DON’T throw your sponge in a bag with other cosmetics that has sharp corners of products can tear or pierce your miracle complexion sponge.

For best results, replace your makeup sponge every 1-3 months.
